While spring is a much-welcomed season, melted snow often means an increased risk of water intrusion in basements. Unfortunately, the winter thaw along with the higher concentration of moisture in the air creates ideal conditions for mold to grow.

When possible, prevention is the best solution. Some great tips to help secure your home against water intrusion include:

  • Every home needs to have gutters in place to properly divert water away from the foundation. On that note, gutters plugged with leaves and debris are as bad as not having them at all. Make sure to keep them clean and clear of obstructions.
  • Promptly fix water leaks from pipes and plumbing fixtures.
  • Remove minor mold growth off walls and hard surfaces promptly to prevent the issue from growing. For minor growth, mold can be cleaned with water and detergent.
  • Clean out the drip pans of your home’s air conditioner.
  • Keep your home’s humidity level under 50% if possible.

Even for homeowners who take proper precautions, water leaks and intrusion can happen and go unnoticed. If you suspect your home is suffering from toxic black mold due to a water issue, we can help.
